Wood & Swink Post Office
Evinston, Florida.
In 1884, the Florida Southern Railroad went through what is now Evinston, where a General Store and Post Office were built. In 1909 H.D. Wood and Robert Evins bought the store. Fred Wood became the Postmaster in 1934 and served in that capacity for 44 years, longer than any other Postmaster in the State of Florida.
The Store and Post Office are on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and is one of the few Country Store-Post Offices remaining today.
The painting was done for several shows where I participated, in North Central Florida, two of which were in Gainesville. I had taken pictures of the horse drawn mail wagon from the Greenfield Village Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. I included it in the design of the painting.

Thrasher Bros. Warehouse
Micanopy, Florida
Micanopy is just south of Gainesville, Florida, just east of the I-75 exit. was founded in 1821. Most of the buildings in the town are on the National Register of Historic Places since 1983. There are antiques and places to shop in the oldest Florida inland settlement, which is located about 25 minutes south of Gainesville, Florida. The town has been nicknamed “The little town that time forgot.”
The town has been used for several Hollywood movies, such as “Doc Hollywood” with Michael J. Fox and “Cross Creek” with Mary Steenburgen.
The town had numerous possibilities for nostalgic paintings. Thrasher Brothers warehouse was an obvious favorite, with the Coca-Cola sign painted on the side of the building. The warehouse is also the home for the Micanopy Historical Society.

Wicker Guest House
Key West, Florida
While exhibiting in the Florida Keys, we took some time for picture taking in Key West. We found a Bed and Breakfast and Inn, located 913 Duval Street, located in historic Old Town. To me, it gave the feeling that you can identify with the Key West atmosphere. Later I painted the acrylic painting of the entrance to the Guest House.
The best part of this painting, was during an Art Festival on the east coast of Florida, a young couple approached me with a unique story. The young man advised me that he grew up in that house as a child. They not only purchased the painting, but they asked if I would change the sign above the door.
The name “Wicker” was changed to his last name and the word “Guesthouse” remained the same. I think we not only made their day, but it sure made mine!

The 50s Diner.
Sarasota, Florida
While we were in Sarasota, Florida, we visited my cousin for few days. Since he is a car collector and exhibits his cars at the car shows in Florida, he was impressed with my Diner paintings. There was a local diner in Sarasota, called the 50s Diner and he asked if I would paint it with a couple of his cars in the painting. All four of the cars shown belonged to him at the time.
This painting added to the classic car inventory of the available prints.

Bubba’s Roadhouse & Saloon
Cape Coral, Florida
If you have not visited Bubba’s, you need to put it on your bucket list. Located just east of Burnt Store Road, you can find it at 2121 SW Pine Island Road, in Cape Coral, Florida.
The steakhouse was constructed from 90% recycled parts from old warehouses that were demolished. When you check out the decor in Bubba’s Roadhouse & Saloon, you will find all kinds of memorabilia, including an extensive Beer Can collection and license plates from all 50 States.
You can get in on the fun with their Karaoke and live entertainment. Call for times and dates.
While exhibiting at the Cape Coral Street Arts Festival, the owner approached me to paint a picture of his Steakhouse. I had a lot of fun, because there was neon everywhere and a parking lot full of cars. I put some special cars in the painting for him, including “Elvis”. The Cape Coral Festival was one of my favorites.
Fire Station #6
Miami, Florida
There was a time in my Art Festival Travels when I exhibited in many of the top shows in the country. During that time, the #1 show was Coconut Grove Arts Festival, in Florida. During that show, I sold a painting of the Fire Truck in a field, in Ripley, WV to the Fire Chief of the Miami Fire Dept. Later he contacted me to paint a painting for him of the Miami Fire Dept. as it used to look. He had a black and white photo of the station, taken years prior to then.
I painted several commission paintings in my career. This was just one of them. Another painting I sold at that show in 2003, was of the Key Biscayne Light house, which was purchased by a well-known member of the Versace family, a known name in the area and the Fashion Industry.

28th Street Drive-in Theatre
St. Petersburg, FL.
For those of us that remember the teenage years with outdoor drive-in theatres, we have heard many stories about what happened at those theaters. The painting depicted here, in St. Pete, Florida, shows how some of us saved a few bucks, by hiding in the trunk of the car, until after we were inside the theatre. I’m sure you never did that!
Those were just rumors, right? They eventually got smart and just charged by the carload, instead of per person. There are less than 500 outdoor theatres left in the country. Most have been converted to shopping centers and housing communities.
Other outdoor theatre paintings I have done are: Tri-way Outdoor Theatre, Plymouth, IN; Ft. George Drive-in Theatre, Southgate, MI
Other St Pete places I have painted are:
