Gas City, Indiana family home
Family Home
Gas City, Indiana
While traveling in Indiana and exhibiting at art shows, we would stay at a campground, so I could spend the week painting, getting ready for the weekend shows. Since we were is a motor home, Evelyn would spend the day at the Ft. Wayne Library, working on the family Genealogy.
My family, on my mother’s side were from the Peru and Kokomo, Indiana area. I remember going to Gas City, Indiana to the family reunions as a child. I am not sure how it came about, but we ran into a family that was actually related to us, who lived in Gas City. They had just remodeled their home and wanted a painting of the finished project.
This is just one of several family homes, that I painted for customers over the years.

Valley View Plantation
Valley View Plantation
Cartersville, Georgia
When I lived in Georgia, I exhibited in many art shows and festivals in the area. My focus was to paint local landmarks near where the shows were being held. The “Roselawn” show, in Cartersville, was my first show in Georgia.
During the Civil War, many plantations were burned, leaving only a few homes from that era. Valley View was spared, as it was rumored that it was used as a hospital. The home is 5,160 sq ft on 6,485 acres.
The home was built with Pre-Civil War Architecture and is located west of Cartersville, Georgia. The Plantation home is now being used by the Bartow County Historical Society.
The painting was done in 1985 on stretched canvas.
I painted several Cartersville places, and some really close by, here are the links…

Cave Spring House
Cave Springs, Georgia Family Home
While traveling and selling my paintings and prints, I have had a number of people commission me to paint an acrylic painting of their home or sometimes an old family homestead they may have grown up in, as a child.
This painting was for a young couple who lived locally from the local show that was located along Cedar Creek, in Cave Springs, Georgia.

Wicker Guest House
Wicker Guest House
Key West, Florida
While exhibiting in the Florida Keys, we took some time for picture taking in Key West. We found a Bed and Breakfast and Inn, located 913 Duval Street, located in historic Old Town. To me, it gave the feeling that you can identify with the Key West atmosphere. Later I painted the acrylic painting of the entrance to the Guest House.
The best part of this painting, was during an Art Festival on the east coast of Florida, a young couple approached me with a unique story. The young man advised me that he grew up in that house as a child. They not only purchased the painting, but they asked if I would change the sign above the door.
The name “Wicker” was changed to his last name and the word “Guesthouse” remained the same. I think we not only made their day, but it sure made mine!

Gov. Joe Frank Harris’ Home
Joe Frank Harris, Former Governor’s Home
Cartersville, Georgia
When we first moved to the State of Georgia, we moved to Cartersville, north of Atlanta. I had painted several homes on commission for several years. When I found out that the current Governor’s personal home was located, in Cartersville, I thought it to be a nice gesture to paint his home and present it to him.
I did not know that it would be such a big event at the time. It was on the front page of the local paper with a photograph of the presentation at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta.

Armuchee House
Armuchee House
Armuchee, Georgia.
While exhibiting at a show in Cave Springs, Georgia, a couple talked to me about painting a picture of their home. We made an appointment with them to see the home and take some pictures. Their home was located north of Rome, Georgia outside of Armuchee, GA.
While being taken on a tour of the home, they brought out a photograph of what the home looked like before it was remodeled. It was black and white photo of the house back in the early 1900’s. Since I was interested in nostalgic places, I mentioned that I would like to paint a second picture of what it used to look like. The didn’t mind, but they were not interested in purchasing it when it was finished.
This is what the finished painting looked like before it was remodeled. The painting was sold almost immediately. Actually, it was still on my easel, not quite done, when someone told me they wanted to buy it when it was finished. You’ll notice the date on the painting , 1985 shows that it was painted 35 years ago.

Acworth House
Acworth House
Acworth, Georgia
When I first moved from California to Georgia in 1983 and started exhibiting my work, I found a nice show in Bartow County in the community of Acworth, which sits along the shores of Lake Allatoona. As I looked for a subject to paint, I found several. One painting from the area, was “The Gathering Place”, which was an old shed. To compliment the subject matter the I was painting at that time, was the Acworth house, which was an abandoned home in the area.
Wheeling MD House
Wheeling, MD House
Wheeling, Maryland
While exhibiting at the Mountain State Arts and Crafts Festival, in Ripley, West Virginia, a man stopped and asked me about painting the home he grew up in. Since I had done this plenty times before, I told him what was needed to complete the painting. He asked if I would be interested in bartering instead of payment in cash. After finding out that he was a dentist, we decided that I would have some work done every year I returned to the area.
The painting had his whole family outside the home along with the bicycles they had when growing up. I ended up painting another one later of his mother’s homestead for a Christmas present. Here’s the other painting in Kenna, West Virginia.
Oh, by the way, I had my teeth cleaned and whitened, a root canal and a crown, as well a filling. Even Evelyn had her teeth cleaned and whitened. I don’t remember if she had other dental work done, but we didn’t have any insurance at the time, so that was a blessing.
