The Palace Theatre,<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

South Bend, Indiana.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

As a young boy, I remember all the bright lights of the Palace Theatre in South Bend.\u00a0 All the best movies were there, including the Premier of the movie “Knute Rockne: All American”, starring Ronald Raegan as George Gipp (The Gipper), with Rudy Vallee, Bob Hope, Jane Wyman, Kate Smith and Pat O’Brian as Knute Rockne..\u00a0 The theatre was built in 1922 and closed in the 1960’s.\u00a0 Several years later, it was saved from demolition and remodeled into a theatrical venue with the help of Mrs. Ella. M. Morris, from South Bend. It was renamed \u201cThe Morris Civic Auditorium\u201d and later \u201cThe Morris Performing Arts Center<\/u><\/a>\u201d now focusing on Broadway Productions and name brand talent.<\/p>\r\n

South Bend had five theatres in the 1960’s when I was growing up.\u00a0 I have also painted the State Theatre<\/u><\/a>. The two of them and are popular\u00a0when exhibiting in\u00a0local shows. Since South Bend was the home of the Studebaker, I had to put one in the painting.<\/p>\r\n

Other Theatre paintings are:\u00a0 The Reese in Plymouth, IN<\/a>;\u00a0 Fox in Detroit<\/a>, Atlanta\u2019s Fox<\/a>, Fox #2 in Atlanta<\/a>; The Chicago Theatre<\/a>; The Los Angeles Theatre<\/a>; Loew\u2019s Theatre in Jersey City, NJ<\/a>, Warner Theatre, Elkhart<\/a> and the Lerner Sign in Elkhart, Indiana<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n
